My neighbor has installed a CCTV. I was happy initially because it is part of safety in my mind. Recently he called me over to have tea and casually mentioned that I am not very meticulous while cleaning my yard. To my horror, and his technical pleasure, he showed me the footage of me cleaning my yard. His camera is covering my yard not his !!!!
When I asked him why he is covering my yard, he simply answered - part of extended security. He wants to see where the thieves come from, if they do.

If you are having similar problem, know that NO ONE has the right to film your property. But if the film exists, it can be used in court.
Data Protection Act (DPA) covers businesses and commercial bodies. In case of residential surveillance, the law is a bit undefined. The Information Commissioner (or equivalent) is responsible for residential complaints on privacy breach.
In case of my neighbor, I was able to reason with him. But I gather there are others out there who have similar problem.
Security is a necessity. But let us respect the privacy of the people as well.

Our neighbours are allways staring at us and now if we look back even for a moment they say we are spying on them, we got this security camera filming OUR yard and now they are spreading word that we are filming them which is not true + now they got web cameras on their windows pointing straight trough our windows...
